BATTLE OF CULLODEN COMMEMORATION 2012

The Gaelic Society of Inverness will hold its Annual Service at the Memorial Cairn on Culloden Battlefield at 11 a.m. on Saturday, 14th April. Afterwards, the Clan Donald group will gather behind the banner and follow the piper, Sandy MacDonell, to lay wreaths at the Keppoch and Clan Donald Stones and for Clanranald, Glengarry and Glencoe at the old stone which has 'Clan Donald' inscribed on it.
At last I am able to give you the good news that the National Trust for Scotland has marked with a dotted line the path to the Clan Donald stones on all its marker boards.
There are also clear signs indicating the way to the stones, which is a great advance, and the path as far as the main Clan Donald stone has been widened and upgraded to DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) standard. We now await the promised new path from the Main Cairn to the main Clan Donald stone.
Following the commemorations on Drumossie Moor, 'The Culloden Lunch' will again be held in the Culloden Suite at The Drumossie Hotel, followed by piping and speeches.
I am delighted to inform you that Mr. Roddy Balfour has agreed to be our guest speaker.
He will give us an account of an important phase of emigration from the Highlands in the 19th century: speaking about the work and operations of the Highland and Island Emigration Society, with an emphasis on the contribution by Clan Donald to the success of the scheme. Roddy is well known in the Inverness area, having lived there for over 50 years. Amongst may other things, he is convenor of the Glenfinnan Games and a past President of the Gaelic Society of Inverness.
